Lalian (Punjabi: لالیاں) is a city in the Chiniot District of Punjab province, in Pakistan. It is located at 31°49'21N 72°47'50E with an altitude of 171 metres (564 feet) and is situated on the Faisalabad-to-Sargodha road.[1] Its name is after "Mian Muhammad Siddiq Lali", a Muslim saint. According to the census of 1998, Lalian holds total population of 200,000. The total number of households was 2100 aprox.
Government
Lalian was made town committee along with Garh Maharaja in 1928, 2009 with the creation of Chiniot District it became tehsil headquarters.[2] Lalian is the only transit market for more than 100 villages, so it assumes a great economic importance. At present the population of Lalian is not less than 2 lakhs. It is connected brand band networking, digital telephone exchange and other facilities of communication.
History
The police station of Lalian was established in 1867 during in British rule., the high school was also established during British rule in 1918 as was the Rural Health Centre. It also has a technical training centre under TEVTA which is lacking enrolment due to out fashioned and useless variety of courses provided. It needs to be upgraded with new career oriented courses and training to ensure the enrolment. There is a veterinary hospital that is insufficient to meet the ever growing needs in the field of live stock.
Lalian is facing great problems in health and education sector. Rural Health centre is unable to provide quality health facilities to people. It has no emergency, ambulance is out of order.No gynaecologist available in the centre. It is badly needed to upgrade this hospital into THQ hospital to heal the people of the locality. Health sector is also in need of great improvement. Science classed must be started at Inter and graduation level so that quality education may be provided to ensure the bright future of area and the country.
Nadra office is shifted in Tehsil office now. First people had to go to get their CNIC from Chiniot, which being a District, consumed lots of time, standing in the line and observing patience. The nearest towns are ( Chak 46 S.B) Ahmeda Nagar, Chenab Nagar (Rabwah), and the nearest villages are Wallay, Winokay, Chak Bahadur, Mohsinabad, Kot Ismaile, Sanghray Wala, Jabana, Saboowalla and Thatti Bala Raja. The city has approximately 200,000 inhabitants.
